Precursors
You already own it
This browser has a Precursors license. Download it again below, then get the app.
Precursors on your own computer. Norns with real genetics, real biochemistry and minds of their own, living on your machine instead of our server.
Same game as the browser version, as a desktop app you keep.
Early Access: read this first
- It is in active development. Things will break and change, sometimes between one week and the next.
- Saves may need migrating when a new version changes how worlds are stored. The launcher keeps a backup before it does, and you can stay on the version you have for as long as you like.
- Apple Silicon Macs only for now (M1 or later). Windows and Linux are coming.
- Not yet signed by Apple. The first time you open it, macOS says it “could not verify” the app until you allow it once (right-click → Open, or System Settings).
- Your license covers future updates, through Early Access and after it.
What you get
- Runs locally. The game and its server run on your computer.
- Plays offline. No connection needed to start or to play. Online features sync when you reconnect.
- Local minds, optional. On Apple Silicon, your Norns can think with a model running on your own Mac. Macs with less memory can use a smaller model, or cloud minds if you want them.
- All your computers. Install it on every computer you use, and play on one at a time.
- Versions side by side. Install new versions next to old ones, choose when to update, roll back any time. A new release never changes the version you are playing.
